Flowing waves of hand-hammered copper reveal themselves from within in this extraordinary fine art photograph from inside the Statue of Liberty. These undulating curves, viewed from behind, are Lady Liberty’s sculpted hair, the famous strands that frame her crowned visage rendered here as abstract ribbons of metal shaped by nineteenth-century craftsmen using techniques unchanged since antiquity.

This Statue of Liberty interior photograph offers a perspective few consider when they picture the world’s most recognisable monument. The repoussé technique used to create the statue’s copper skin involved heating metal sheets and striking them with wooden hammers over carved forms. The result, viewed from inside, is a landscape of gentle ridges and valleys that catch the light with remarkable subtlety, each curve representing countless individual hammer blows delivered by skilled artisans in a Paris workshop over a century ago.

The tonal palette is unexpectedly warm. While the statue’s exterior has long since oxidised to its famous verdigris, the interior copper retains something closer to its original character: soft sage greens and silvered greys that speak of age and preservation rather than the bright penny-shine of new metal. Riveted seams cross the surface where individual copper sheets were joined, their dotted lines adding geometric counterpoint to the organic flow of the sculpted forms.

There is something intimate about this viewpoint. To stand inside Liberty’s copper skin is to occupy the space between icon and structure, to see the handmade reality behind the symbolic image. These are not the clean lines of industrial manufacture but the evidence of human labour, each imperfection a testament to the collaborative effort that created this enduring monument to freedom.

Printed in-house on museum-quality Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm archival paper using UltraChrome pigment inks, this architectural detail print is guaranteed to retain its subtle tones for generations. Each limited edition print is hand-signed and includes a certificate of authenticity.

The unusual perspective and historical resonance make this copper repoussé photograph ideal for collectors who appreciate both fine craftsmanship and American iconography.

Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm

Our prints are made on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a white 100% cotton fine art paper with a subtle, velvety texture. Developed by one of the world’s oldest paper mills (established 1584), Photo Rag has become the benchmark for fine art photography printing.

The natural cotton fibres create a surface with remarkable depth and tonal range — shadows hold rich detail while highlights remain clean and luminous. The gentle texture adds a tactile quality that elevates the image beyond a standard photograph, giving each print the presence of a true artwork.

Photo Rag is acid-free, lignin-free, and produced without optical brightening agents, meaning it won’t yellow or degrade over time. When combined with pigment inks, prints are rated to last over 100 years under proper display conditions.

UltraChrome Pigment Inks

We use professional-grade pigment inks rather than dye-based alternatives. Pigment inks are embedded into the paper fibres rather than sitting on the surface, resulting in exceptional fade resistance, a wider colour gamut, and true archival permanence.

Printed with Care

Each print is produced to order in our studio, hand-checked for quality, and allowed to rest before being carefully packaged. We never outsource to third-party print labs.

Size Dimensions Best Suited For
A4 210 × 297 mm Desks, shelves, and smaller spaces. Ideal for gallery walls with multiple pieces or as a considered gift. Works well in standard frames widely available on the high street.
A3 297 × 420 mm A versatile mid-size print. Suits bedrooms, hallways, and home offices. Large enough to appreciate fine detail while remaining easy to frame and hang.
A2 420 × 594 mm A confident statement piece. Perfect above a console table, in a dining room, or as a focal point in a living space. Requires wall space but rewards with presence and impact.
A1 594 × 841 mm A commanding artwork for larger rooms. Ideal above a sofa, bed, or fireplace. At this scale, the image becomes immersive — fine textures and subtle tones reveal themselves fully.

A note on borders: All prints include a 40mm white border, which provides breathing room for the image and allows for flexible framing options — whether floated, window-mounted, or framed to the edge.

What’s the difference?

An open edition print has no cap on the number produced. It can be reprinted as demand requires, making it an accessible entry point into collecting fine art photography.

A limited edition print is restricted to a fixed number of copies. Once the edition sells out, no further prints of that image at that size will ever be made. This scarcity makes limited editions more collectible and valuable over time.

Size Edition Type What's Included
A4 & A3 Open Edition Hand-signed by the artist
A2 & A1 Limited Edition of 100 Hand-signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity

Why 100?

We’ve chosen an edition size that balances accessibility with genuine scarcity. An edition of 100 allows collectors at different stages to own the work, while still ensuring each print holds long-term value. Once an edition sells out, that’s it — the image is retired at that size permanently.

Certificate of Authenticity

Every limited edition print (A2 and A1) is accompanied by a signed certificate confirming the title, edition number, print date, and materials used. This documentation supports provenance and protects your investment.
